After finishing Max Lucado’s book “He Chose the Nails”, I decided to read “The Angels were Silent”. In the latter book, Max spoke of looking forward to meeting the man who gave his donkey to the disciples for Jesus to ride into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. The Master needed it, so he gave it. Max went on to say that we all have something we can give to further the Kingdom of God.
That got me to wondering, what’s my donkey? What can I give that will further the Kingdom of God and bring glory to Him?
We are all in different circumstances and different stages of life, but we all have something to give.
First of all, we are to let our lights shine right where we are, in our homes and community, that others may see Jesus in us. We are to share the Good News with others, as this was Jesus’ last command before he ascended to heaven.
I think we should first look to our inner circle, our family. We might ask ourselves, are we taking care of the spiritual needs of our family and holding them up in prayer? We have people that the Lord has put in our lives, friends and co-workers. How might we minister to them? What can we do for our church and church family, our community? I think if we ask the Lord how we might be his hands and feet, he will be faithful to bring opportunities to us.
Some of us can give monetarily, some can give time and/or resources, and some of us are good at speaking and sharing with others. This does not happen to be my particular gift. I’m like Moses, “Lord, I can not speak, please let Aaron speak for me.”
Each of us, though, has been given a gift and a purpose. There will be no greater joy than for us to hear Jesus say, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Let us diligently seek the Lord in this. What’s my donkey Lord, how can I bring glory to you and further your kingdom?
