Last Sunday’s message, (we are in the book of Philippians), had lots of nuggets but I’d like to share one in particular. I have heard it many times before, there is even a children’s song about it “This is the day the Lord has made…I will rejoice and be glad in it!”  This Sunday I heard it brand new.   Our Pastors’ passion on the subject helped to fan that flame within me.

Psalm 118:24.   I’ve heard this, I believe this and try to go through my day reflecting it.     The way Pastor explained it made me realize I needed to change my attitude regarding the new day I’ve been given the moment my eyes open and before my feet hit the floor.   I would call myself a morning person, but I don’t really jump out of bed and greet the day enthusiastically, I can be a grumbler.   Sunday’s message has changed that about me.

“Yes, Lord!”  “Thank you for giving me this new day!”  “What are we going to do today, Lord?!”  (emphasis on “we”)  This describes my morning attitude this week, and you know what?  It works!  Having my first thought in the morning be, “Good Morning, Lord, I’m excited for this new day” instead of “Grumble, grumble” sets the tone for the day.  This attitude adjustment has changed my outlook and carried me through the entire day.

Then John MacArthur’s message on the same subject just confirmed it even more.  Christians are not to be grumblers and complainers.    This is who God created me to be, this is where God has put me, quit complaining about it and shine.  “So that you may be blameless and pure, children of God, who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the sky” Philippians 2:15.  Also, if I’m still here occupying space in this world, I have a purpose, a God ordained purpose.  A purpose that was decided on before I was even born.  So, I need to look forward to carrying out that purpose the moment I wake.

I am happy to say that every morning this week I woke smiling and thanking the Lord for the new day and asking Him what we were going to do.  The days still had some rough spots, but I was able to handle them better and with more joy.  Praise God!

This is the day the Lord has made!
