My Jesus Robe

My Jesus Robe:  The minute my feet hit the floor I head to my closet and put on my Jesus Robe.  I imagine it to be white and made of fine linen. It fits me perfectly and the moment I put it on I feel  power and strength surge through my body. I’m ready to face the day, whatever obstacle or temptation…..I can overcome it.  Whatever blessing….I praise God for it. No bad thoughts, no bad attitudes! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it were that easy?  I know I would never take that robe off!

What if I told you such a robe is available to you.  We are told in Isaiah, “I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God.  For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness”.  Isaiah 61:10. When God looks at us, He sees Jesus! I think that is amazing! He no longer sees our sin, He sees the righteousness of Jesus. How do we get such a robe?  Paul says in Galatians, “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Gal. 3:27. This robe is available to every believer.

Once we’ve got it on, how do we keep it on? Jesus states, “ I am going to send you what my Father has promised, but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:49.  The Holy Spirit which lives inside each believer will help us remain in our robe.

The more time we spend with Jesus, the more we will reflect His character.  “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature”.  Romans 13:14

The characteristics that describe Jesus are the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.  “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Col. 3:12

And finally, “Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”  I Peter 5:5 There are none more humble than Jesus. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  Mark 10:45 So we are to follow the example of Jesus and look to the needs of others before our own.

Jesus gives us a powerful example in John 3: 4,5 & 12-17.  Jesus got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.v.4  After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.v.5    When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” v.12 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’, and rightly so, for that is what I am”.v.13  “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”v.14 “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”v.15 “Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent hm.”v.16   “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them”. v.17

Let us put on our Jesus robe, letting Him live in us and through us.  But, let us also gather up our robe and “wash one another’s feet” by looking to the needs of others.
