Have you ever stopped to pick up a penny lying on the ground? Let me share a story with you about picking up pennies.
A man and his wife are spending the weekend with his very wealthy boss. The first day and evening go well, they enjoy having this rare glimpse into how the wealthy live. The husband’s employer is a very generous host and takes them to the finest restaurants.
As they are about to enter the restaurant that evening, the boss who was walking a bit ahead stops suddenly. He bends down and picks up a penny. He holds it up and smiles, puts it in his pocket as if he has found a great treasure.
The woman was puzzled and asks if he has a coin collection, was this a special penny that he has found? The man holds up the coin for her to read “In God we Trust”, he says. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. God drops a message, a reminder, right in front of me to trust Him. Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I ask myself, an I trusting Him? I pick up the coin as in response to God, that I do trust Him. I think it’s God’s way of starting a conversation with me.
God is patient and pennies are plentiful!
I do not know the author of this story, I first heard it many years ago, it was sent to me in an email. Since that time it has encouraged me when I find a coin. I pick it up, smile and think “thank you Lord for the reminder! I do trust you.”
I recently found several versions of this story on the web. I wanted to share it with you so you too could be blessed when you find a penny. Pennies are indeed plentiful, and God is gracious to send you the reminder, sometimes when you are needing it the most.
