The Life of a Preschool Teacher during the Christmas Season

Twas the month of December and all through the city the teachers are crafting, gluing, and cutting.

The stockings are fingerpainted by the children with care as Jingle Bells plays as loud as we dare.

The room is covered in green paint and glitter, outside the weather is cold and bitter.

The children are donned in their holiday best and have just settled in for a much needed rest.

When all of a sudden I let out a yelp…breaking the silence I called out for help!  The glue gun was the culprit and the hot, stringy mess, mixed with sequins and felt were stuck to my fingers, no less!

I peeked on the children, had I woke them from nap?  I found all to be quiet but the sound of a tap, tap, tap.  Who’s making that noise I thought to myself.  I surveyed the room, what’s that on the shelf?  Someone had left the little drummer boy playing….next to baby Jesus in his manger was laying.  A rat a tat tap and a rum a bum bum, I tiptoe to quiet this holiday drum.

The children still dreaming of frosted cookies and punch my attention was drawn by the sound of a crunch.  But what to my tired eyes should appear but a parent had arrived to pick up their little dear.

The presents were wrapped and placed in their cubbies to be taken home and treasured by their daddies and mummies.  First one left and then another.  Little ones leaving in the arms of their mother.

After the last child had gone, the room needed a mop……after that I just could not stop.  The garbage overflowed with wrapping and such, the carpet as well need to be cleaned just as much.

Finally I was done and as I locked up the place I thought,

No more handprints, no footprints, or thumb prints either.  No glitter, no sequins, or ribbon to leave here.  The Christmas holiday was busy and filled with lots of fun, we can go home now with a job well done!
